A day in the life of... Gina Bravenboer: Recruiter at Milgro

Milgro employs ambitious professionals who work every day on our sustainable mission. What does it mean to work for a purpose organization? And how is this mission reflected in everyday work? We asked several colleagues to describe a day at Milgro. Today it is Gina Bravenboer's turn. She is a recruiter at Milgro and is responsible for recruiting and selecting the candidate who matches our open vacancies.

Match with Milgro

Already during the first job interview I got a positive impression of Milgro. The application process went smoothly and the interviews gave me a clear picture of the organization. At the office, I was amazed by Milgro's unique layout. Not long after, I was hired and received a warm welcome on my first working day. Meanwhile I have been working for seven months with great pleasure at an employer who thinks with me, lets me grow and also has a wonderful mission.

Connecting with new colleagues

As a recruiter, I think it is important to welcome and guide new employees well. We have developed an instructive onboarding program, so they get to know the organization well. Maintaining contact with the colleagues I have hired is also important and fun. That is why I regularly have lunch with the new colleagues. A good time to catch up. I like to hear how they like it at Milgro and whether they have found their place in the meantime.

Responsibilities

I always start the morning by updating my mailbox and calling applicants. Today several applicants came in from our own website, LinkedIn and Indeed. I make a selection and try to call them for a phone interview. When I am enthusiastic, I put them through to the manager in charge of the department. If they are also enthusiastic, I invite the candidate for a first meeting at our office.

Introductory interview

Next, I have an introductory meeting with an applicant. I spoke to the candidate over the phone last week and I look forward to meeting her in the office. I go over her resume and cover letter again carefully and I prepare some questions. Then my colleague Annette from Facility knocks on the door; the applicant is already there.
I do the interview with my colleague from the Service & Support department. She tells me more about the role and what it entails and I tell the applicant more about Milgro itself. We complement each other well! During the interview I notice that the applicant also becomes enthusiastic about our story and we also about her. Good start of the day!

Hands-puzzle

After the interview, we give the applicant a tour of our unique office. Then my colleague and I discuss the interview some more. We would like to invite her for a second interview, so I start working out the evaluation form. This is a kind of summary of the first interview, so that my colleague who will conduct the second interview will be well prepared.

While working out the evaluation, a new colleague also comes to the office to pick up his NS Business Card. Nice to have spoken to him again.

From meeting to meeting

A few weeks ago, I signed up for a webinar on using AI in recruitment. So I decide to lock myself downstairs in one of the greenhouses (our unique meeting rooms) and focus there for 45 minutes.
After the webinar, I have a Teams meeting with my colleague from IT to ask for more information for the new vacancy we are going to post for this department. We spar back and forth and in the end I got enough information. Since the next meeting is about to start, I decide to work out this information tomorrow and then forward it to my colleague from Marketing so she can write the job description.

My colleague Simone and I are working together to revamp our onboarding program. Every week we have another meeting and make a kind of roadmap for the coming week. What are we going to work on next and what have we done? We schedule a meeting with Nienke from the Impact department within Milgro for next week. New employees have to deal with a lot of new information, but with our onboarding program we make sure that they quickly become familiar with Milgro.

End of the day

We are already heading toward the end of the afternoon and I am still working out the employment contract for the new employee who will start in early November. I ask Simone to check it tomorrow so that I can send it out immediately afterwards.
I check my mailbox one last time and see that my colleague has already made good progress with our project on the terms of employment in Belgium. I read it over carefully, post a few more comments and realize that I still have a few things to figure out.

I make a to-do list for tomorrow, look at the clock and see that it is already 5 p.m.. The time has flown by. I am curious to see what awaits me tomorrow, because at Milgro no day is the same.
