A day in the life of... Lisanne Sonneveld: Employee Datacenter

Ambitious professionals work at Milgro who work on our sustainable mission every day. What does it mean to work for a purpose organization? And how does this mission find its way into everyday life? We asked several colleagues to describe a day at Milgro.

Today it is Lisanne Sonneveld's turn. She is Employee Datacenter and ensures proper administrative setup. She deals with preparing sales invoices and providing reports.

Start of the day

Friday!!! A day that often revolves around home-baked poffertjes for lunch (or some other baking from our colleague Elena), discussing weekend plans and Friday afternoon drinks. But first we get to work. I get in my car early to avoid the crowds on the road and start my day at our Pittsburgh Street office. My work week consists of three home working days and one day at the office. I try to alternate these in order to meet different colleagues on the job. Once I arrive, few early risers are still present and I pick my favorite flex spot. After booting up my laptop and being provided with a cup of tea, I go through my work inventory and set up a "to do list" for myself.

Prio of the day

Topping the list today is billing. Every month, the Datacenter team makes sure that our clients (which we call disposers) are provided with their invoices around the 25th. Prior to this period, we try to complete all jobs that have been called, along with the correct data information. For example, a particular order may have a weight missing or an unknown stream released. We contact the relevant departments to ensure that the order can be included in the monthly invoice.

Daystart

After doing some work, it's time for the day start. We do this through teams, because several colleagues have scheduled a home work day on Fridays. Within Milgro we work with different sectors. At Datacenter we have combined these into two teams so my daystart consists of the colleagues from these different sectors. Within each team there are divisions so that each team member is responsible for a number of customers. At the start of the day we discuss the state of affairs, what we are up against, how our invoicing is doing, does anyone need help and, not unimportantly, what our weekend plans are. After a round of questions, the day starts and everyone picks up his or her work.

Mailings

After the day starts, I first work through the urgent emails. For example, I have received a number of occasional orders from our service department that need to be entered and I receive a price change from the CEO that needs to be processed before the invoice can be sent out. Meanwhile, my service department colleague manages to find me through teams for an urgent job. A malfunction has been reported and a repair order needs to be sent to the relevant party asap. Let's take care of it! So the morning flies by and it's already time for lunch. During lunch, a number of our colleagues enjoy sitting at our usual spot in the canteen or, weather permitting, walking around the neighborhood.

Invoicing

In the afternoon, the focus goes entirely to invoicing. As a team, we have the goal of achieving a certain percentage in the number of invoices sent. Everyone contributes to this as much as possible. I check my invoice screen and send all invoices that I see are ready for invoicing. After completing these as much as possible, the invoicing is over and there is still time left for actions. Actions are created by our back office department when a purchase invoice does not match what we have in the called order. By figuring this out and making some adjustments, these invoices can also be booked and our clients (which we call recipients) can be provided with a payment. Meanwhile, some colleagues are already walking towards the canteen, time for Friday afternoon drinks!

No two days are alike

I have enjoyed working in the Datacenter team for over 3.5 years now. Our team consists of 15 pleasant colleagues who work well together, both within the team and with other departments. No day is the same at Milgro. There are always new challenges to be found in daily work or while collaborating on a new project. After the weekend we will hear from our team lead whether the percentage for invoicing for this month has been achieved, exciting! But actually, I already know the answer.
