What is Earth Overshoot Day?

Earth Overshoot Day marks the moment when we have used more raw materials and natural resources worldwide than the earth can replenish in one year. As of that day, we are living on ecological credit. The later Earth Overshoot Day falls in the year, the less the pressure on our planet.

In 2025, Earth Overshoot Day falls on July 24. That means we will use 1.7 times as many resources in that year as the Earth can renew in 12 months.

Milgro and Earth Overshoot Day

Earth Overshoot Day shows: we structurally consume more raw materials than the earth can replenish in one year. That has to change. How? By dealing more intelligently with raw materials.

At Milgro we accelerate the resource transition by working towards a world free of waste. We do not see waste as an end point, but as a raw material that has lost its way.

We help your organization to monitor waste streams, separate them better and reuse them as useful raw materials. This way you prevent valuable materials from being lost and your organization contributes to moving Earth Overshoot Day toward December 31 - where it belongs.

How a Zero Waste approach helps shift Earth Overshoot Day

Earth Overshoot Day shifts when we consume fewer resources than the earth can replenish annually. Every time materials unnecessarily end up as waste, new raw materials are needed to make a new product.

A Zero Waste approach helps prevent that. By minimizing waste at the source and reusing materials at a high value, raw materials stay in the chain.
